If you are involved in an auto accident it is important for you to take
the appropriate action to protect your legal rights.
1. Obtain the name, addressand telephone number of the other driver, and
the name of his/her insurance company with the policy
number.
2. Write down the names,
addressesand telephone numbers of any witnesses to the
accident.
3. Request the local police
department to come to the scene of the accident. If the police do not come, you
should report the accident to the police at your earliest
opportunity.
4. Do not provide a written or tape recorded statement to any
insurance company, even your own insurance company! You can report the accident
to your own insurance company, but do not provide a
statement!
5. If you are injured,
contact an attorney as soon as possible so that the attorney can begin an
investigation and preserve any evidence which may be important to your
claim.
